On the African Plain

A giraffe is reaching toward the top of a Baobab tree to snack on the leaves. The tree is on the edge of a grove of shrubs and other Baobab trees. The giraffe is so tall that a cloud from the sky encircles its neck.

The starting image for this November PFCC challenge was Cloud 5694354 by Dimitris Vetsikas from Pixabay. As usual, I stewed for a while before I came up with this idea. The giraffe is from an Adobe free template called “Hakuna Matata Giraffes Composite” by Thomas Subtil. I thought I’d never find a Baobab tree at the same perspective as the giraffe. After I exhausted all the free stock image sites I know, I finally went back to AdobeStock (at the end of the month, I’m usually close to the limit on my subscription . . . I hate to pay extra, eve though it’s only a couple of bucks . . . and found this Baobab grove (308100592) within the first couple of pages. I should’ve started there.

I’ve done a fair bit of light and shadow manipulation both to tone down the image and to match the lighting on all three images. The sky is simply a color fill on the bottom layer. The thing about reviewing older composites is that I almost always see something that I think needs fixing, so instead of just posting, I have to redo and post ;-)

    Take care and stay well.
